Are you attempting to problem-solve your transformation?

I was on a call with one of my client's earlier today, and she asked me if I could give her some tools for how she could back herself away from the cliff in times of crisis in her life.

Her experience is that when a crisis happens, especially in her relationships, she's so deep in it that she can't possibly think her way into a better situation in the moment.

I'd given her so many tools that worked so well for her in the past, that I must have one for these specific moments where the sensation is running on overdrive and she experiences paralysis.

I love tools, and I was so inclined to offer up more, except, as I listened to her talk, it occurred to me: she was trying to problem-solve her transformation.

(for anyone wondering, she's so unbelievably generous that she has given me permission to share this with you all here, for the betterment of humanity at large)

There's this thing we do. We go about life and we may notice at some point that there are certain things that REALLY don't work, and then there are other things that are a-ok.

We go talk to coaches and therapists about the things that aren't working, and we attempt to glean tools and resources to address all the problems.

So we can fix them! Obviously! Because once we fix our problems then we won't have problems anymore! Right?!

*wink*

Here's the thing though. It's pretty hard to apply practices that require a high level of consciousness to really high sensation triggering experiences if we aren't also applying those practices to all the other experiences of our daily life.

Just like you can't selectively numb, you also can't selective wake up.

Here's what I love about this concept:

There are things in your life that are definitely FOR YOU but you can't see because you aren't looking there.

Some of my biggest awakenings have come from being willing to look at the areas of my life that I thought were totally normal and without dysfunction or residual trauma (imagine my surprise when I discovered I had normalized trauma and dysfunctional conditioning even in the places I thought were problem-free!).

But here's the good news. When you start looking at the less obvious places of your life, you start to discover that you have needs you never knew you had! And, it's in learning about those needs and taking care of them that you set yourself up to no longer walk blindly into crises without resources.

It's sort of like walking into REI and realizing there is camping gear you never knew you needed!

Learning to establish practices that keep you alive, awake, and alert in areas you think are problem-free is a great gateway drug to having the consciousness to stay present and resourced for the inevitable higher sensation moments of life.

Speaking of high-sensation and triggers: it's Thanksgiving in the US on Thursday, and the above is going to be EXTRA helpful for you this week. ;)
